2025 Pokemon TCG Rotation: What's Leaving Standard Format

The 2025 Standard format rotation removes Regulation F cards. Here's what's leaving, what stays, and how it changes the meta.

The Pokemon Company has announced the 2025 Standard format rotation, which takes effect after the World Championships. Regulation Mark F cards will rotate out of Standard, leaving only Regulation G and newer cards as legal. This is one of the most impactful rotations in recent years.

Key cards leaving Standard include several competitive staples from the Scarlet & Violet base set and early expansions. Players will need to find replacements for rotated Trainers, search cards, and support Pokemon that have defined the format for the past two years.

Notable cards rotating out include early Scarlet & Violet staples that have been format pillars. Decks built heavily around Regulation F Pokemon will need significant retooling or may become Expanded-only strategies.

The post-rotation meta is expected to be more open and diverse. When powerful established cards leave, newer cards that were previously overshadowed get a chance to shine. This is often the most exciting time to be a competitive player, as new archetypes emerge and the format is unexplored.

For collectors and investors, rotation can temporarily depress prices on rotating cards as competitive demand drops. However, popular cards with collector appeal (alternate arts, Special Art Rares) tend to hold value regardless of tournament legality. Consider picking up rotated cards you want for your collection at their price floor.

If you are a competitive player, start testing post-rotation builds now. Check which regulation marks your current deck uses, identify which cards are leaving, and begin exploring replacements. The players who adapt fastest to a new format often have the best results at early post-rotation events.
