Pokemon Card Market Trends: Q1 2025 Recap
A look at how the Pokemon TCG market performed in early 2025 — what's hot, what's cooling off, and where prices are heading.
The Pokemon TCG market in Q1 2025 has been characterized by strong demand for modern chase cards, continued interest in vintage holos, and a growing influence from the TCG Pocket mobile app. Overall, the market is healthy and growing compared to the post-hype correction of 2022-2023.
Modern sets are performing well. Prismatic Evolutions dominated January and February, with Special Art Rares holding strong prices. Surging Sparks and Stellar Crown continue to perform steadily, with their top chase cards maintaining or gaining value. The trend toward beautiful artwork as the primary value driver continues.
Vintage cards have stabilized after years of post-2021 correction. Base Set holos in PSA 9 and PSA 10 have found firm price floors. First edition copies remain premium, but the gap between first edition and unlimited has narrowed slightly as the market matures.
The Japanese card market remains extremely active, with Japanese Special Art Rares often selling for premiums over their English equivalents — a reversal from historical norms. Collectors increasingly view Japanese cards as having superior print quality and artwork.
Sealed product has seen interesting dynamics. Recent booster boxes are readily available at or near MSRP, making them accessible for players and collectors. Older sealed product (Evolving Skies, Brilliant Stars) continues to appreciate as supply dries up.
Looking ahead to Q2, the upcoming set releases and World Championships season should maintain market momentum. New competitive staples will drive singles demand, while collector interest in Illustration Rares and Special Art Rares shows no signs of slowing.
