Top Meta Decks in Standard Format — March 2025
The current Standard format metagame heading into Regional Championships season. Here are the top-performing archetypes and what to expect.
The Standard format metagame heading into the March 2025 Regional Championships has settled into a diverse but defined tier structure. Several archetypes have proven themselves at recent tournaments, and understanding the meta is crucial for competitive players preparing for events.
Tier 1 decks are the most consistent performers across multiple Regional Championships. These archetypes have strong matchup spreads and can adapt to various opponents. They represent the decks you're most likely to face in a best-of-three tournament setting.
Charizard ex remains a top-tier threat with its ability to accelerate Energy and deal massive damage. The deck's consistency engine, built around draw Supporters and search Items, makes it reliable in almost every matchup. Variants include turbo builds that rush to attack and control-oriented builds with tech cards.
Dragapult ex has emerged as a strong meta contender, spreading damage across the board and applying pressure from multiple angles. Its Dragon typing means it requires two types of Energy, but modern support cards make this manageable.
Tier 2 decks are competitive and can win tournaments but have more polarized matchups. These include Gardevoir ex (Psychic-based) and Lugia VSTAR (in formats where it remains legal). Single-prize aggressive decks like Roaring Moon and Iron Valiant also sit in this tier, punishing decks that rely on multi-prize Pokemon.
When choosing a deck for a tournament, consider the expected meta at your event. If Charizard is dominant, bring a deck with a favorable Charizard matchup. If the meta is diverse, prioritize consistency over specific tech cards. Testing against the top archetypes is the best way to prepare.
